Unruly Curls has been established since 2005 and has always been at the forefront of giving curly girls great results but times do change and new ideas come along. The company has built its reputation from cutting curly hair wet and we still believe it is a great approach but a growing amount of demand from the public is aimed towards dry cutting and it makes sense that curly hair should be approached from this perspective.
99.999 % of hairdressers worldwide have no formal training in cutting curls as it is not included in the college curriculum in any country and that just sounds ridiculous as more than 65% of people in the UK alone have some form of curl in their hair so inevitably curly girls fear a visit to the salon simply because they fear the results and admittedly have good reason based on their past experiences when visiting hairdressers who claim to be able to tend to their tresses.
I call this fear PTCD, (post-traumatic curl disorder) .
It is UnrulyCurl’s mission to put curly hair clients at ease during their visit and for them to have the best possible outcome whilst being surrounded by other curly girls in an environment of like-minded /curly people. What is a Curl By Curl / Deva Cut ?
Let’s start by asking why cut curly hair wet with tension and guesswork (applies to untrained hairdressers)
Wet cutting means the hair is stretched and held in positions that are so far from its normal placement that its final outcome when dry is harder to judge than when cut dry.
The Curl by Curl also known as The Devacut both of which were invented by Lorraine Massey (author of curly girl method) heralds a new era for the lives of 10’s of thousands of curly girls. Invented in the late 90’s the technique has since forged a new path and won the hearts and minds of all who experience it.
CBC technique is principally for all curl types and takes into account each client’s individual curly or wavy hair pattern.
I cut the hair whilst dry.
The technique takes into account the natural fall and texture of the hair along with the many curl types that can often be found in an individual's hair and allows me to sculpt frame and personalise the form from many perspectives.
Possibly the most exciting advantage is the client can see the form come to be and is able to participate in its final outcome by making suggestions during the process.
Finally, a technique that empowers the client and restores self-confidence whilst achieving stunning results.
The Process
The Curl By Curl / Deva Cut Includes in-depth personalised consultation, curl care and product advice, a customised dry cut that focuses on individual curl pattern and multiple textures within your hair type. Be sure to arrive with your curls dry after following your normal routine using your favourite products, this assists the stylist to make an accurate analysis prior to cutting.,
Let your hair fall naturally before arrival—accessories like ponytail holders can disrupt your curl pattern.
Preparation
Prior to your Curl by Curl/ Devacut we ask you to decide when you feel your hair looks its best. What we mean is do you love your curls on wash day or do you prefer the second or third day. We ask our clients to arrive at the salon with their hair on their favourite day after following their normal routine, so it could possibly mean washing your hair on the morning of the appointment or up to 1 or 2 days prior.
On the day of your appointment you will have a thorough consultation then the hair will firstly be cut dry followed by a gentle cleanse and conditioner with our luxury CGM product range and then gently dried with a diffuser.

NB- Please be sure to familiarise yourself with the info regarding this process to ensure its right for you; it is not always appropriate, if you wear your hair straightened or use tongs etc. it may not be your go to choice.
Curl by Curl/Deva Cut X
This is exactly the same as the Deva Cut & CBC except there is no washing or diffusing. You simply arrive in the salon with your hair pre-washed and styled as you would normally wear your hair and the cut is done within 45 minutes and your done.. Great for regular returning clients or clients who don’t require washing and drying.
